Learn how to use reclaimed wood paneling to create an inviting atmosphere in your home, office, and beyond.

Benefits of Barn Wood Paneling

There are so many reasons to incorporate barn wood into your interior design, beyond just aesthetics.

  • Unique texture — Vintage wood paneling comes with a distinct texture that makes it stand out in any space.
  • Lightweight — With this option, you get the rustic look without the weight of hardwood, making it easier to install.
  • Versatile — Barn wood paneling adapts easily to any style, from traditional to transitional to ultramodern.
  • Variety — Our wood comes in a variety of finishes and wood species, so you can always find the perfect reclaimed planks for your project.
  • Warmth — Barn wood adds warmth and visual appeal, so you can turn a cold and stark environment into something welcoming and balanced. This natural touch can make even the most industrial spaces feel more approachable.
  • Sustainable — Reclaimed wood paneling is an eco-friendly choice because you don’t have to cut down new trees to source the material.
  • History — The character and history imbued in vintage wood bring authenticity and charm to modern spaces.

Barn wood complements almost any design style. In a cottagecore home, it adds a warm and vintage vibe that makes this style thrive. If you prefer a modern farmhouse approach, barn wood paneling uses neutral elements to create an inviting space. For those embracing urban industrial designs, the rugged charm of barn wood can soften the harder edges of concrete and steel.

How We Source Our Barn Wood

Like with all our reclaimed wood, we source it from old factories, warehouses, and barns. Then we give it new life with a thorough cleaning. This involves denailing, wire brushing, kiln drying, and an optional Bora-Care® treatment to make sure it stays bug-free.

Denailing might seem simple, but it can take hours to remove nails from a single piece of wood. Next, wire brushing cleans the surface, while adding some texture. Lastly, the kiln removes any excess moisture in the wood and kills pests that are hiding inside.

The meticulous attention to detail ensures that each piece is as functional as it is beautiful, and after this process is complete, you have planks that are clean, safe, and ready for your home.

We can offer you rough-sawn boards, weathered gray reclaimed panels, or planed-down pieces for a more refined look. Each piece tells its own story, with patinas and grain patterns reflecting decades of history. Because of the variety of finishes, there’s bound to be one that matches your space.

Accent Wall

If you’re looking to add reclaimed planks to your home, a popular option is to line an entire wall. Choose from your favorite siding styles to create a beautiful focal point, or embrace an eclectic design with a patchwork or herringbone pattern featuring different patinas. Adding lighting can further enhance the unique details of your chosen barn wood.

Wainscoting

If you’re not ready to commit to a full wall, then instead go for some barn wood wainscoting. This paneling is installed on the lower half of a wall to add a decorative element. Pair it with neutral or bold wall paint above to create a contrast that makes your space feel stylish and cozy. This subtle touch can be perfect for entryways, dining areas, or even bedrooms.

Don’t leave the fun to the walls—let your ceilings get in on this action too! Adding barn wood paneling to the ceiling instantly creates a midcentury-inspired look for your living room or den. It also works wonderfully in bedrooms or dining rooms, where the natural wood tones can make the space feel warm and inviting.

Backsplash

Another idea is to cut down barn wood planks to create a backsplash in your kitchen or bathroom. The lightweight wood will add the perfect warmth and texture to your space. Seal the wood properly for moisture resistance, and you’ll have a durable, stunning backsplash that becomes a standout feature. For a little contrast, pair it with modern appliances or sleek countertops.
